I can’t believe that it has been 7 weeks since our lives changed forever and we welcomed our perfect son into this world! It is still hard to wrap my head around the fact that I have TWO children haha! But we have made it this far without going crazy so hopefully we can keep this up :) I want to try and document our lives here so I can look back at this blog posts and remember what our crazy life was like!
I’ll start with the birth story of Connor.
About two weeks before my due date Jon and I had a long discussion with my OB about my delivery. My labor and delivery with Adaline was pretty terrible haha! I had to be induced because of high blood pressure and it was just a long and very painful process. She was bigger than they expected her to be and getting her here was not fun! Lets just say my body didn’t do well delivering an 8lb baby!
We had this meeting with my OB and came to the conclusion that a c-section would be our safest option. Honestly, I was completely devastated but it didn’t take long for me to come to peace with the decision. There were too many risks to my health and the health of Connor that I couldn’t chance it.
So we scheduled my c-section for the 14th and spent the last two weeks soaking up time with our girl!
My surgery was scheduled for 12pm, but we got to the hospital around 9 that morning to get prepped. We were a little too early, so we did a lot of sitting around waiting. It was pretty windy/stormy that day, and earlier I had joked that I hoped the power didn’t go out during my surgery!
Around 12 the anesthesiologist came into the room and was discussing the procedure with us, and she went to the computer to do last minute checks. Then… the power went out! Hahaha! I was so thankful it was before I was in surgery, but it did push everything back while we waited for the power to come back on. (I still can’t believe that I called that ha!)
Around 12:30 they started wheeling us back to the OR, and they put Jon in a room to wait until my spinal block was put in. When the anesthesiologist put in my spinal, it ended up taking about twice as long as normal to take effect, which completely freaked me out! But thankfully it started working and my doctor came in and started the surgery. Jon was finally able to come in and sit beside me and hold my hand. The anesthesiologist was so sweet to explain what was going on for us.
All of the sudden she peeked over the curtain and then told us our baby would be born within the next 60 seconds! I didn’t know what to expect with the c-section, but I actually felt a TON of pressure when they were delivering Connor. It was very strange, but it only lasted a few seconds.
I heard the doctor say, “He’s got a ton of hair!” and then I heard his cry and my heart was overwhelmed with gratefulness.
My doctor walked around to where Jon and I could finally see our son, and my first thought was he WAS so big and looked like his sister! Jon went over to take pictures of him while the nurses cleaned him up, and then they brought him over to me. I remember his sweet cry and I was just so happy to finally meet him!
Jon left with Connor while they finished my surgery and I was reunited with them in the recovery room. I did start getting really nauseous about an hour after surgery and ended up getting sick with I got into our room, but they were able to give me medicine so it didn’t last very long! The worst part was the liquid diet! Ha :)
Overall, I was so happy that we made the decision for the c-section. Of course it was very painful at times, but my recovery has been amazing this time around too! I’m so thankful for a healthy pregnancy, delivery, and perfect baby!
